Why give to Life Counseling Center? Counseling Center 12Every gift helps to support lives changed. Today is #GivingTuesday, we want to share with you what your gift to this ministry helps to provide. Life Counseling Center is dependent on donor support. Your giving helps people encounter the life changing hope of the gospel through solid biblical counseling. We think there is no better way to share with you the value of this ministry than for you to hear it from someone who has personally experienced it. Below is a story sent to us by one couple who wanted to share how God used Life Counseling Center in their lives.

“After twenty years of marriage, we felt disconnected from one other.   Two extremely busy individuals with two kids, jobs and a household to run, our marriage had taken on an administrative feel.  Even our Christian walks were disconnected–my husband in the Men’s Ministry at church; me, in Women’s Ministry.  Our lack of emotional and physical intimacy resulted in irritation, criticism and even disdain for each other.  That’s when we decided to try marriage counseling at Life Counseling Center.

Our counselor approached us in a gentle, understanding and loving way—never once did we feel judged.   She helped us to move away from focusing on the faults of one another (if only he would…if only she would…) to a more central issue; our hearts.  I never considered that behavior changes only after the heart changes—a simple but profound realization that shaped the process in the months ahead.

As we explored our hearts for each other, and for God, we got much, much more than we bargained for.   Sin and deceit, stemming back twenty years when we were first engaged (and still present), was revealed for the first time.   A sense of betrayal, pain and shame emerged—I didn’t think we could sink much lower emotionally.   We poured through scripture, cried and begged God for answers…and that’s where He met us.  Through the next weeks of counseling, and in between sessions, we had the most honest conversations we’ve ever had.  Oddly, I felt closer to my husband than I had before.  It took some time, but God bestowed upon me feelings of forgiveness and humility—supernatural feelings I know I never would have mustered on my own.

I honestly feel that this was the beginning of our “true” marriage—a covenant between man, woman and God—the way I wish it had been since the beginning (but then again, God works in mysterious ways).    It’s been six months since we completed counseling at Life Counseling Center, and we look back at our experience there with fondness and appreciation—definitely the best investment we’ve ever made.  Our marriage bond is stronger and more intimate than ever, and we have the strength/tools to face challenges that come our way with love and kindness.  Thanks be to God. “
