Counseling Conversations is a bi-monthly meeting for people actively involved in lay counseling, discipleship, or mentoring relationships.
Through the years we have had many people ask if we provide ongoing training for people in ministry or whose occupation and life circumstance brings about counseling-type conversations. While we do offer training and supervision to our counselors we have been unable to provide that to people outside our ministry walls. Until now.
Starting January 2016 we will be hosting informal supervision and training on an ongoing basis to anyone who can benefit from this type of meeting. Each meeting will be hosted by two experienced counselors who will help you navigate the common hurdles of personal ministry and counseling. You will be able to discuss counseling scenarios and situations that you are finding challenging in your own sphere of ministry. It is designed to be a place where you can ask questions and get direction for specific areas of help you need for others. In addition, each meeting will also have case study exercises where you can learn valuable relational skills to help you create better conversations.
Some examples of case study topics may include:
- Counseling couples
- Eating disorders and self-image
- Same sex attraction
- Grief and loss
- Mandated reporting and detecting abuse in relationships
We have sought to make this as affordable as possible. The fee to participate is a one-time $90 registration for the year. This covers the costs of the 6 two hour training/supervision meetings. That breaks down to $7.50 an hour for each session. If Counseling Conversations is of interest to you would you help us in determining the best day/time to meet by filling out this very brief 2-questions survey.
If you think you or someone in your ministry could benefit from this please contact Pam Riley for registration information (firstname.lastname@example.org or call 443-419-3884). Space is limited and sign-up is required.
We hope you can join us!
